Interested in contributing to science aimed at protecting the Gulf community from Zika and other mosquito‐borne diseases? The National Science Foundation has funded a project to develop optical recognition software for smart phones and tablets that enables citizens to help track the spread of Zika‐carrying mosquito species.
A workshop will be held to train community members how to identify the species of interest, take photos with their devices, collectother data and submit to the data base.
When: A 1 ½ day workshop will take place October 7‐8, 2016. The half day will be Friday from 2‐5 pm. Saturday activities will start at 10 a.m. and end in the afternoon.
Where: Activities will take place around the neighborhoods of Leon C. Simon Drive, New Orleans. Details will beprovided to registered participants.
Connection with PBS Documentary: PBS is developing a documentary showcasing the contributions of citizen scientists in addressing some of today’s most challenging issues. Workshop participants will be included in the series and should expect to be filmed during training. The series is scheduled to air on PBS nextspring.
