Job title:                     Program Coordinator:            Nutrition Grant for Under 5 Feeding Project in Rural Honduras, Shoulder to Shoulder, Inc.

Research Proposal: Nutrition and Health Outcomes in Rural Honduras: Shoulder to Shoulder, Inc. and the Mathile Institute Partnership for the Advancement of Human Nutrition in Women and Children

Requirements: PhD preferred in the area of Nutrition or Master of Public Health, MPH/RD , with at least 3 years experience working in a  community based project setting. Experience working in a Latin American country and Spanish fluency required. Preferred experience with the collection of data for qualitative research (i.e. focus groups, in-depth interviews, dietary intake, and anthropometrics as well as the ability to train, hire and supervise staff.

Location: Isolated rural community of Santa Lucia in Intibuca, Honduras -minimum 2 years

Salary:                        Depending on experience and training

Job Description: -Manage Institutional Review Board activities for the project which includes  establishing protocols to obtain informed consent, development of  informed consent forms in Spanish, developing protocols for data collection, and protecting the confidentiality of the subjects.

Hire and train local staff- 4 health promoters, 2 data entry persons

Coordinate qualitative data collection: Consult with faculty from UNC -SPH Dept Nutrition, on the development and organization of qualitative data collection process.

Organize & conduct focus groups with women and children in the community

Create and manage data base for qualitative data collection

Establish 12-16 “feeding centers” in a three county region in Intibuca:  Santa Lucia, Magdelena, and San Antonio including appointing community members to take responsibility for these centers.

-In consultation with faculty from UNC-SPH, establish system for biomarker and dietary data collection: order lab kits, equipment for lab tests, responsible for establishing transport system for labs needed to be sent out of Honduras, conduct 24 hour recalls.

-Organize and oversea data collection of anthropometric data on each participating child: tools for collection, database for entering raw data, equipment needed

Purchase and manage all supplies for project functioning

Organize, and manage weekly food distribution process to 12-16 feeding centers

-Train and supervise 4 community health workers to manage and run educational “charlas” on nutrition topics

-Create manual for Under 5 Feeding program & rapid food distribution process to be replicated by NGOs in Honduras and other developing countries

– Communicate with grant team monthly to report on progress

-Work directly with Project Director, Hayley Holland, MPH, Shoulder to Shoulder and consulting staff from UNC-SPH
