Position/Title: Statistician/Database Developer

The Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI) is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong analytical, database development and communications skills to fill the position of Monitoring and Evaluation Statistician/Database Developer within CHAI’s Boston office.

Description:

The Statistician/Database Developer will take a leading role in the creation of databases to input, manage and analyze data to support and improve HIV care and treatment programs.  This person will also be responsible for rigorous statistical analyses of data derived from the databases as well as data gathered through implementation research projects to inform local, national and international policy and best practices in HIV care and treatment.  In the first year, the focus will be primarily on using data to support and improve prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) programs. The Statistician/Database Developer will be a member of CHAI’s Boston-based Global M&E team, and will work in partnership with other CHAI global teams and CHAI country teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaboration with colleagues to advise on the appropriateness of study designs and available statistical methods to approach implementation research questions;
  • Conducting statistical analyses;
  • Co-authoring reports containing actionable recommendations based on analyses performed;
  • Educating and training others regarding statistical methods;
  • Use appropriate and rigorous statistical methodology to identify key lessons from data collected in CHAI programs, with the goal of supporting and improving HIV care and treatment;
  • Design of robust, user-friendly databases able to capture large volumes of data on a regular basis from CHAI country teams and partner governments;
  • Provide technical assistance to CHAI teams, government, and organizational partners to enhance data management systems for improved quality of HIV treatment and care, with an initial focus on PMTCT programs;
  • Document and disseminate best practices in managing data to HIV care and treatment, with an initial focus on PMTCT programs.

Skills/Experience required:

  • MPH, MS (or equivalent) or equivalent work experience
  • Excellent statistical analysis skills
  • Expertise in SAS, SPSS and/or STATA
  • Excellent database development skills (MS Access, PHP/MySQL,)
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS care and treatment in resource-limited settings
  • Strong problem solving skills and analytical capabilities
  • Ability to multi-task and to be effective in high-pressure situations
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Experience working/living in resource-limited setting desired
  • Willingness to travel internationally
