Senior Biostatistician

JOB SUMMARY

To provide development and support of applications and initiatives within the Clinical Services Group.  Applicant will be expected to learn and maintain existing applications as well as work within a project team environment for any new development this include requirements gathering and providing estimates for work involved.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Collaborates with epidemiology and research teams to design studies, forms and analysis plans, perform sample/size/power calculations and stratification/randomization of studies; statistical programming, data analysis, and report writing.

2. Develops data collections plans and coordinates various surveillance systems.  Coordinates and carries out data collection, processing, and analysis.  Provides consultation on design of data processing systems, specifying the needed output, the required input and the methods of validation and quality control.  Responsible for ensuring the statistical validity and epidemiological applicability of study activities by solving problems occurring in the data collection process.

3. Recommends and carries out effective statistical methodology and strategies necessary for the creation, completion, and analysis of epidemiology or research projects and supervises the planning and designing of analytical procedures by others.  Develops sampling methods, determines sample size and draws samples of populations to be studied.

4. Recommends analytical design for a broad range of data.  Recommends the most appropriate statistical procedures for evaluation of outcome of studies.  Uses a wide variety of statistical procedures including but not limited to categorical data analysis, exploratory and graphical methods, analysis of variance(ANOVA), correlation analysis, multiple linear regression, time series analysis, logistic regression, survival analysis, spatial analysis, and non-parametric methods.

5.Provides technical leadership, consultation, advice on statistical analysis, methods and techniques for epidemiologic or research studies.  Collaborates with other researchers in the healthcare disciplines.

6. Performs a variety of tasks.  Relies on extensive clinical, statistical and information technology experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

7. Aids in the design and development of new databases and reporting systems and the redesign of existing databases and reporting systems used within the Clinical Services Group for evaluating service line performance, and reporting to senior management and the Board.

8. Provides expert advice and consultation on clinical development program strategy and tactics. Plans statistical design for clinical trials, conducts statistical analysis and reporting of these analyses.

9. Prepares analysis plans and writes detailed specifications for analysis files, consistency checks, tables, and figures; communicates with clients regarding statistical analysis issues.

10. Able to establish and meet due dates.

11. While not responsible for entire project plan, can create own analytics tasks within a project plan, leading large-scale development projects and providing accurate estimates.

12. Can resolve simple, moderate and complex issues without assistance.

13. Serves as the department’s statistical liaison and builds strong relationships within department and with other staff outside of the department.

14. May lead and direct the work of others

15. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

16. Requires a master’s degree and at least 2-3 years in area of specialty and 2-3 years of experience in the field or in a related area..

17. Performing other related duties as required.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s Degree, e.g. MPH, MHA, MBA, MS, MA (Master Degree in Statistics or Biostatistics preferred) with strong healthcare background/experience.

Expert knowledge of SPSS or SAS software (preferred)

Six Sigma experience (optional, but preferred)

Expert knowledge of MicroSoft Office

Strong data base skills

Working knowledge of SQL and Oracle
