Research Assistant – RAND Gulf States Policy Institute (term)
Limited duration position; not to exceed 2-3 years

The RAND Gulf States Policy Institute is seeking highly motivated Research Assistants to work on a variety of domestic research projects as members of multi-disciplinary research teams addressing complex policy problems. In addition to providing support to research projects, the Research Assistants will work with the core staff of the RAND Gulf States Policy Institute on short term research and data projects as well as proposal development and community outreach and engagement. Research Assistants will also provide support to external affairs and perform other duties as assigned. Research projects may include infrastructure, coastal restoration, housing, energy, environment, health, education, and public safety and justice issues. Research Assistants may work with teams of experienced researchers, including economists, psychologists, physicians, policy researchers, scientists and engineers. Research Assistants’ tasks include data collection, preparation and analysis; conducting interviews; helping develop field surveys; literature reviews; preparation of draft documents and presentations; and coordination of work among project team members. Research Assistants may travel with project teams and may have the opportunity to co-author reports and journal articles.
Qualifications
- Educational requirements: Master’s degree preferably with a major in public policy, public administration, economics, public health or other similar field. Bachelor’s degree in a technical field with strong empirical skills may also qualify.
- Specific technical skills required/preferred: Specific technical skills required: Applicants should have excellent research and analysis skills demonstrated in coursework or work experience; the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; and the ability to work effectively as a member of multi-disciplinary teams. They must be highly motivated, organized, flexible, and have the ability to work independently as well as a part of a team. The applicant must demonstrate a strong commitment to RAND’s core values of quality and objectivity. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required. Experience with standard statistical software packages (SPSS, SAS) preferred.
