The Office of Public Health, Department of Health and Hospitals, State of Louisiana is seeking a qualified person for an opening position as the Regional Epidemiologist in Houma, LA Work responsibilities: The incumbent will * Coordinate and conduct epidemiological investigations for OPH programs such as Infectious Diseases, Maternal and Child Health, Injury Prevention, Chronic Diseases, Environmental Epidemiology and Occupational Health Conditions in the region. * Participate in emergency preparedness, particularly regarding bioterrorism events, and natural disasters such as hurricanes. * Function as the team leader for all epidemiologic activities in the region. * Provide epidemiologic technical assistance to the Regional Management Team and community groups regarding assessments, epidemiologic methods, program/study design and program evaluation, sources of and interpretation of quantitative data and quality assurance activities. * Prepare and review reports of epidemiologic studies and investigations Minimum qualifications: A master's degree in public health, which included twelve hours in epidemiology, biostatistics, tropical medicine, maternal and child health, occupational health, international health, community health, or any combination OR A master's degree in nursing, a social science, a biological science, or a behavioral science, which included twelve semester hours in epidemiology and/or biostatistics or a combination OR A doctorate degree in veterinary medicine, which included twelve semester hours in epidemiology and/or biostatistics or a combination OR A doctorate degree in epidemiology. Work location: The Regional Epidemiologist will be located in the OPH office in Houma however the applicant is also supposed to travel within the region and sometimes within Louisiana.
