PSI seeks a regional researcher for Eastern Europe and Asia to be based in one of the existing PSI platforms. The regional researcher would start as soon as possible and provide technical assistance and support to 6 PSI programs in India, Pakistan, Russia, Romania, Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan) and Nepal. The regional researcher reports to the Deputy Director of Research and Metrics.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The regional researcher will work closely with the PSI/country offices, country- level researchers and PSI/Washington, DC to:
- Manage and implement research activities, including study designs, questionnaire development, sampling frames, analysis and dissemination;
- Train country-level researchers and build their capacity to design studies, oversee data collection, analyze and interpret results;
- Design quantitative studies to segment populations, monitor social marketing activities over time, and evaluate intervention effectiveness;
- Design qualitative studies to create multidimensional scales, develop communication concepts, and pretest communication strategies;
- Analyze data, write social marketing research reports, and deliver presentations to internal and external stakeholders;
- Develop research studies that result in actionable insight for programming;
- Build capacity to interpret research findings and utilize data to guide program decisions and activities;
- Develop training materials and research toolkits; and
- Publish research findings in peer reviewed journals.
QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD in public health, behavioral sciences, population studies, psychology, communication or a related field;
- Additional four years professional experience in the design, analysis and management of behavioral research pertaining to more than one health area/service (HIV, family planning, malaria and/or social franchising);
- Experience designing different types of qualitative studies and analyzing qualitative data;
- Demonstrated ability to conduct research with populations at higher risk for HIV, including sex workers, men who have sex with men and injecting drug users;
- Experience conducting or designing surveys that utilize respondent driven sampling and/or time-location sampling;
- Experience designing household surveys among populations residing in low income or rural areas;
- Ability to develop research training tools and materials for a variety of contexts, learning curves and needs;
- Extensive knowledge of a statistical analysis program (SPSS or STATA) and multivariate analysis;
- Management of multiple research studies and developing capacity of country-level research staff;
- Ability to travel up to 30% of the time internationally; and
- Excellent written, verbal and inter-personal communication skills.
Preference will be given to candidates with work experience in low and middle income countries, knowledge of public health issues and social marketing products, experience working in Asia, familiarity with GIS and product coverage surveys, and/or familiarity with the international donor development community.
