The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a federal agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, would like to extend an invitation to your Masters’ candidate students to attend an on-site information session about an exciting career opportunity in the Administrative Fellows Program (AFP) on Tuesday, March 3, 2009.
The NIH is the premiere biomedical research agency for the Nation and the world. However, you don’t have to be a scientist to discover NIH! This is a place to grow and be challenged by utilizing and enhancing skills in analysis, leadership, and management. With its headquarters located just outside of Washington, DC in Bethesda, Maryland, the NIH employs approximately 18,000 scientists and administrative support staff across its 27 Institutes and Centers which lead the way toward important medical discoveries that improve people’s health and save lives.
The two-year AFP, a training program under the Federal Career Intern Program (FCIP), facilitates fast track development through experiential learning and training in administrative fields such as the following:
* Administrative Officers * Human Resource Specialist
* Management Analysts * Grants Management Specialist
* Budget/Financial Analysts * Communication Specialists
* Ethics Specialist
Minimum qualifications for the AFP include a Master’s equivalent degree or two full years of higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Candidates can also qualify for the Program based on a combination of successfully completing graduate level education in excess of one year and specialized professional experience related to their career tract of interest.
The NIH AFP Information Session will provide your students with a chance to learn more about the Program, meet with current professionals in the hiring career tracks, gain valuable information on applying for federal careers, and tour the beautiful NIH campus.
