NEW ORLEANS WETLANDS Planting
The City of New Orleans, Mayor’s Office of Environmental Affairs has teamed up with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to conduct a wetlands planting project in the Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge on Wednesday April 30, 2008 from 8:30-3:30.
Ravaged by Hurricane Katrina, Bayou Sauvage needs your help in recreating wetland habitat and providing storm surge protection for the city. Bayou Sauvage is the largest urban refuge in the United States. Located in the Pontchartrain Basin, this refuge provides a safe haven for migratory birds, fishes, shellfish, alligators and small mammals. Please lend your time and energy to enhance this treasured resource.
