The Michigan Department of Community Health, Lifecourse, Epidemiology and Genomics Division, is seeking qualified candidates for the permanent full–time position, Epidemiologist-Maternal and Child Health- Infant Health. This position will be filled as Epidemiologist -E (P10-P-11)( Entry level) or Epidemiologist-A (P-12) Advanced, depending upon the preferred candidate’s qualifications.
This position provides epidemiological analysis on all matters concerning perinatal / infant health, and mortality and morbidity prevention to the Lifecourse, Epidemiology & Genomics Division (LEGD) of the Bureau of Disease Control, Prevention and Epidemiology. This program aims to improve perinatal and infant health to improve birth outcomes of all mothers and to reduce infant mortality in the state. The Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology Team is committed to providing statewide epidemiologic leadership and expertise for maternal and child health programs that support women and children in Michigan. MCH epidemiologists have strong collaborative relationships with other areas of the Bureau of Epidemiology, with the Maternal and Child Health programs within the Division of Family and Community Health (DFCH), and the Minority Health & Health Disparity Reduction Section. Furthermore, MCH Unit Epidemiologists work closely with statisticians and analysts within the Division for Vital Records and Health Statistics (DVRHS) who maintain the state’s vital records files and disease registries, develop survey sampling frames, and provide linked datasets that are essential to assess maternal, infant, and child health. Importantly, these efforts have fostered collaborative relationships with MCH programs, vital records and health statistics, Michigan Medicaid, health care providers, policy makers, and other stakeholders.
