Youth Program Intern
Organizational Background:
Incorporated in 1993, the Institute of Women & Ethnic Studies (IWES) is a not-for-profit 501[c] (3) organization based in New Orleans, Louisiana. IWES is dedicated to improving the physical, mental, and spiritual health and quality of life for women of color and their families. IWES is a social change organization that strives to improve the lives of women, youth, and communities of color through health education, training, and advocacy.
Position Description:
The Youth Programs Intern may work on a variety of projects. S/he is responsible for assisting program staff with planning, promotion, and implementation of public health activities for youth.
Specific duties may include participating in program development meetings, taking notes, attending staff meetings, literature reviews, online research, administrative tasks, and other duties as assigned.
The Youth Programs Intern may be involved in the following projects:
- Assisting with the development and publication of the Media Advocates for Prevention (MAP) Curriculum guide, including curriculum development, design research, formatting, etc.
- Maintaining and updating the MAP My space page
- Assisting with Monitoring and evaluation
- Researching current trends in global and domestic HIV prevention policy and initiatives
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with training and experience in public health.
- Experience with youth-directed programming and training initiatives.
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities relating to HIV risk reduction interventions, sexual and reproductive health, adolescent health, and minority health.
- Knowledge of MYSPACE- a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, including experience in cross-cultural exchanges.
- Highly organized and task-oriented. Good time management skills.
- Proficient in current versions of Windows, Microsoft Office, Email, and Internet.
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a team.
- Willingness to work night and weekend hours as requested.
Job Type: Part time, Internship, 20-30 hours/week
This is a position under the supervision of the Program Director for HIV Prevention and can be structured to fit the specific needs of candidate’s internship requirements.
Compensation: Stipend
