Public Health Specialist II, State of Alaska Position ID Number: 06-1642

The incumbent serves on the HIV prevention team in the Section of Epidemiology’s HIV/STD Program. The main duties will include analyzing epidemiologic, behavioral, and other relevant data to guide HIV prevention policy and programmatic activities. The incumbent will be responsible for preparing technical reports as well as interpreting and selectively applying federal and State policy/guidance for HIV/STD Program staff and HIV prevention grantees. The incumbent will oversee development of, and develop recommendations to be included in, the statewide HIV prevention plan, based on needs assessments, epidemiologic and other data, and community input. Additional activities will include training health providers in HIV counseling and testing, assisting with HIV prevention grant guidance and funding decisions, conducting quality assurance activities, providing technical assistance, participating in professional meetings/conferences, and overseeing preparation of federal grant applications and required reports.

This position is based in Anchorage and requires periodic travel to other areas of the U.S. and Alaska. The position offers interaction with professional colleagues within and outside of Alaska, specialized training opportunities, and flexible work hours.
