Duties & Responsibilities: Under limited supervision, supports health education and health promotion activities for residents living in Clayton County. The health educator will spend 50% of his/her time planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating childhood injury prevention activities. This position will serve as the Coordinator for Safe Kids Clayton County; a childhood injury prevention coalition proudly led by the CCBOH in partnership with Safe Kids Worldwide, Inc., and as such will provide general support and coordination for the coalition and its activities. He/She will serve as a liaison between the coalition, CCBOH, and community partners to oversee the implementation and planning of the coalition’s goals, objectives, and strategies. The remaining 50% of time will be spent developing and implementing health promotion activities designed to address cardiovascular disease reduction efforts within Clayton County. Core activities will include, but is not limited to, developing and implementing strategies to encourage residents to increase their consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables; increase physical activity; and decrease tobacco use. The health educator will also assist with grant development, social marketing efforts, community health assessment activities, health fairs, and targeted health education for special populations.
Minimum Training & Experience: Completion of a course of study equivalent to a master’s degree in public health education
OR
Completion of an undergraduate major in education, the social, behavioral or biological sciences or a directly related field
and
One year of experience in public health education.

Agency Specific Qualifications and/or Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications also possess the following:
• Experience with developing and maintaining community coalitions and partnerships.
• Experience establishing and maintaining community gardens.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), with an ability to work with a diverse group of people and multidisciplinary teams.
