Sexual and Gender Based Violence Advisor/ Gender Based Violence
Coordinator Middle East

The International Rescue Committee is seeking two Gender Based Violence
professionals for our programs in the Middle East. The Sexual and
Gender Based Violence (SGBV) Advisor, seconded to UNHCR Syria, will be
responsible for assisting UNHCR and its partners to build upon existing
efforts to develop mechanisms to prevent and respond to sexual and
gender-based violence as well as to enhance access to existing relevant
services. The SGBV Advisor will be responsible for identifying the
cultural, social and political challenges in developing prevention of
and response to sexual and gender-based violence programming and
coordination in general. The SGBV Advisor will provide technical
leadership in assessing needs, developing appropriate strategies (i.e.
establishment of relevant services), providing technical guidance and
coordinating efforts between relevant international, local and state
actors.

The Gender Based Violence (GBV) Coordinator will be responsible for the
development and implementation of IRC’s strategy to address GBV in the
Middle East. They must ensure that all interventions are technically
sound and appropriate in meeting the needs of GBV survivors and affected
communities. The GBV Coordinator will also be responsible for improving
the technical capacity of local partners in providing relevant services.
S/he will actively contribute to the development of GBV projects in
Jordan and ultimately supervise their implementation. The Coordinator
will identify and develop GBV projects and points of entry for the IRC
GBV program in Syria and Iraq, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Extensive experience in GBV issues and fluency in
English and Arabic are required for both positions. Experience working
in the Middle East is a plus.
