Planned Parenthood of New Orleans is seeking a Health Educator to join their New Orleans team! In this position the Health Educator will provide and advocate for sexuality and reproductive health education to internal and external customers. The Health Educator will also be responsible for planning and implementation of educational programs for youth, parents/adults, as well as other professionals in New Orleans and the surrounding service area.
This position requires strong interpersonal skills to make connections and build relationships with the target patient/client base. The Health Educator works collaboratively with other departments at Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast (PPGC) as well as other community-based agencies with the purpose making the critical linkages to health information and services for community members. As an advocate for community health, the Health Educator also works to educate the general public on the services available at Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast and the eligibility requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement education programs in New Orleans, Louisiana by providing education and resources to the community in conjunction with the affiliate’s strategic goals.
- Work closely with the Education Program Manager to provide vision and direction to all program areas within the department.
- Maintain necessary knowledge and skills to implement education to program; stay current on recent studies on sexuality, sexual health and reproductive rights and education, family communication, educational approaches to children, teens, and parents, sexuality and developmental disabilities, and LGBTQ communities.
- Design and implement curricula for specific populations.
- Train educators and other professionals working with youth and parents.
- Create and implement community education programs.
- Ensure that program goals and objectives are met by reporting on a program timeline and reaching quarterly goals and serving as trainer, presenter and lecturer as needed.
- Increase capacity through the creation and fostering of collaborative partnerships.
- Market and promote PPGC programs, locally and regionally.
- Work in collaboration with the Education Program Manager to foster public awareness and to provide expertise and to influence decision makers at the local, state, and national levels.
- Work with the Education Program Manager on strategies to build relationships with local press/media to raise awareness about PPGC’s educational programming in Louisiana.
