Food For Families
Internship Opportunity
Summer 2008
The Food For Families Project (FFF), a collaboration between the
Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Project Bread – The Walk For
Hunger (PB) is looking for a full-time research assistant for the summer
2008.
The FFF identifies hunger among families of pediatric patients and
assists the families to access Food Stamps and other food resources. The
project includes six community health centers in the Greater Boston
area. In addition to establishing a model for identifying hunger among
families and assisting the families to access food resources in a clinic
setting, the project was designed to determine its effect on
nutritional, medical and behavioral outcomes for children and their
families. The evaluation of the project also will explore: 1) the
operational issues in implementing hunger screening and assistance in
community health center practices; 2) the financial implications of
implementing hunger screening and an intervention on the health centers;
and 3) whether reimbursement of a hunger screening and intervention by
payers, such as Medicaid, is supported.
Job Description
The Research Assistant will assist in the collection, review and
reporting of data for the FFF; and in the conduct of the project’s
research and evaluation.
The consulting position is 40 hours per week during the summer 2008,
with the possibility for continued part-time consulting during the
2008-09 academic year.
Specific duties include:
* Work with health centers and project staff to ensure that the
data are submitted to the project according to the agreed upon
schedules; and that the data are complete and accurate.
* Develop and produce regular activity reports for review by the
sites, and project management staff.
* Conduct analyses, and assist in the development of research
papers and presentations.
