Public Health – Seattle and King County is seeking an Epidemiologist II to perform professional, independent, creative, and highly skilled survey management, data analysis, evaluation, data dissemination and presentation of qualitative and quantitative health data to a variety of audiences. The Epidemiologist will work to support County initiatives such as Best Starts for Kids, an initiative to improve the health and well-being of King County by investing in prevention and early intervention for children, youth, families, and communities; and other related projects.

Duties:
- Design and oversee data collection, data analysis, and interpretation of public health data and dissemination of findings. An example is a population-based survey of King County to inform initiatives such as Best Starts for Kids. Data collection oversight includes development of data collection instruments, analytic plan, database, protocols, training, quality assurance, and technical supervision of project team.
- Prepare and analyze qualitative and quantitative population health data, including testing for accuracy, developing survey weights, conducting statistical analyses, maintaining and organizing complex sets of related files, and interpreting results.
- Using a combination of qualitative and quantitative data, conduct program, service, and policy evaluation for initiatives such as Best Starts for Kids.
- Liaise with a multi-disciplinary team across multiple departments, multiple divisions, and community partners in the development, analysis, and interpretation of findings.
- Prepare findings, tables, figures, and maps for presentations, reports, and publications to clearly communicate findings to diverse audiences, including public health and human services professionals from multiple sectors, policymakers, and community organizations; make presentations to diverse audiences above.
- Maintain accurate records and files related to work performed; prepare and update documents regarding assigned projects.
- Ensure compliance with survey protocols and human subjects protocols.
- Synthesize relevant literature for survey development, and development and evaluation of strategies.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of: public health practices and principles; the determinants of population health, particularly in the topic of area of maternal/child health and family health; epidemiological, biostatistical, and evaluation principles and methods; GIS expertise;
- Demonstrated ability and experience in survey design, data collection, and in the conduct of epidemiological research for evaluation of public health programs and priorities, drawing sound conclusions from quantitative and qualitative data; prepare and present data and conclusions; translate research findings and conclusions into clear and concise public health information for non-technical audiences; conduct projects within timeline and budget; contribute to major funding proposals and grants.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement complex assignments with multiple dimensions; monitor and redirect efforts to achieve task/project objectives or for quality improvement;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with, develop working relationships, and work effectively with diverse populations and a variety of individuals, including community groups, the public, representatives of other government agencies.
- Demonstrated ability in working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to manipulate and analyze data using sophisticated statistical software and mapping software (e.g. Stata, SPSS, R, and GIS packages).
- Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office products to complete daily assigned tasks, including: spreadsheet development, data base creation and maintenance, word processing, presentations, email and scheduling meetings.
- Skill in managing multiple tasks requiring attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to respond to deadlines in a timely manner.
- Skill in preparing grant proposals, scientific reports, and publishable health literature.
- Ability to be flexible and work on multiple and evolving projects.
