Position Description: The Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center
(NMCPHC) announces the opening of a position for an epidemiologist to
provide expert consultation, technical assistance, and state of the art
expertise in epidemiology and public health in support of the Department
of the Navy. Duties will include providing oversight and guidance for
ongoing preventive medicine and surveillance programs, consulting on
epidemiological investigations, evaluating program effectiveness,
designing and conducting epidemiologic studies, and identifying and
monitoring critical outcome measures. This position may involve staff
mentoring. Expectations of this position include formal and informal
presentations to decision makers, communication with customers including
senior level officials, poster and oral presentations at recognized
national and international conferences, technical writing, and published
manuscripts in peer reviewed journals.
Qualifications: An MPH or academic equivalent is preferred with at least
three years of public health or preventive medicine experience.
Experience with military health systems is a plus.
Organization Description: NMCPHC ensures Navy and Marine Corps readiness
through leadership in the prevention of disease and the promotion of
health. Epidemiology staff members support preventive medicine and
disease/injury surveillance activities involving the collection,
analysis, and utilization of data for occupational health, preventive
medicine, industrial hygiene, environmental health, and public health
programs. NMCPHC’s home office is located in Portsmouth, VA, within
easy commute to the shoreline of Virginia Beach (15 miles) and Colonial
