Community Capacity Program Manager

Organizational Description:

The Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) is a national advocacy organization dedicated to promoting policy, program and research efforts to improve the health and well-being of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities. Founded in 1986, APIAHF approaches activities with the philosophy of coalition-building and developing capacity within Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities. We advocate on health issues of priority and significance to Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities, conduct technical assistance and training, provide health and U.S. Census data analyses and information dissemination, and convene regional and national conferences on Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander health.

Position: Community Capacity Program Manager, Full Time (37.5 hours/week)

Reports to: Community Capacity Program Director

Job Summary:

The Program Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing various activities of a funded body of work related to capacity development including all activities related to the technical assistance strategy. The Program Manager, in conjunction with the Community Capacity Program Director, will work towards achieving the mission and aims of the grant.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage some grantees of Health Through Action;
  • Oversee, manage, develop, and coordinate all activities related to the technical assistance strategy for Health Through Action;
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for capacity development of communities;
  • Develop documentation related to capacity building tools (e.g. community collaboration, organizational development, policy advocacy, data, evaluation, communications, etc.);
  • Develop additional documentation (e.g. proposal and report writing, scientific/policy articles, factsheets, press releases, etc.);
  • Coordinate logistics for all activities related to the technical assistance strategies;
  • Travel for work-related meetings and events as required;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in health, policy, social work, or related fields;
  • 6+ years demonstrated program experience;
  • 6+ years demonstrated experience in project coordination and management, including supervision of other staff, and planning and facilitating meetings and conferences;
  • 5+ years relevant experience working with communities of colors in health, healthcare or other areas of disparities;
  • Ability to lead a large, complex project from conception to completion;
  • Ability to effectively develop and communicate a project plan;
  • Advanced user of MS Office (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
  • Highly proficient in using the internet;
  • Experience in qualitative or quantitative data analysis and interpretation;
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure and with deadlines;
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment;
  • Ability to travel as part of work responsibilities;
  • Experience and/or interest in working with health/health care issues of underserved communities;
  • Experience and/or interest working in a diverse and high energy team environment.
