Business Development Manager with Evaluation Research Experience

Goodman Research Group, Inc. (GRG) is a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based research company that specializes in evaluation of educational programs, services, and materials. Since the company’s inception in 1989, GRG has formulated and carried out over 225 evaluation studies, which have benefited a prestigious group of clients around the country. Key areas of evaluation include formal and informal education, professional development, educational media, instructional methods, outreach campaigns, and web sites. Content areas include literacy, science/technology/engineering/math, health, early childcare and education, and history. Because we carry out evaluation and research spanning a wide range of content areas, the work is invariably interesting and rewarding. GRG is currently seeking a full-time associate whose primary responsibilities will be to write proposals and help generate new business opportunities for the company at the Cambridge office.

An Opportunity for an experienced person with evaluation experience to:

􀂃 Manage the full range of activities required to develop, write, and submit compelling evaluation proposals to foundations, federal and state government agencies, higher education institutions, and corporations.

􀂃 Apply social science research expertise to the writing of proposals.

􀂃 Conduct ongoing research to identify new funding prospects and make contact with these organizations.

􀂃 Maintain data on potential and current clients relevant to the business development process.

􀂃 Maintain and strengthen relationships with past clients and other potential business streams.

􀂃 Carry out other activities related to business development, including development of communication materials (e.g., newsletter, company brochure) and some possible travel to meet new prospects.

􀂃 Work closely with the company president and interface closely with other staff.

􀂃 Be part of team of a small but growing research organization in its 20th year.

Requirements:

To contribute to the growth and excellence of this dynamic organization, the candidate must have an entrepreneurial spirit, exceptional written and oral communication skills, strong project coordination and interpersonal skills, and knowledge of social science research. Other important skills include the ability to organize complex information, use critical thinking, have a keen eye for detail, manage multiple tasks, meet fast-paced deadlines, work independently, and be a team player.

Minimum Qualifications:

􀂃 Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, education, or other related field and minimum of three years relevant work experience required; Masters preferred

􀂃 Broad, sound base of knowledge in program evaluation theory and practice, with experience and/or education in the field of evaluation research

􀂃 Willingness to relocate to the Boston area; ability to travel by car and by air (e.g., drive to meetings with local potential clients, occasionally fly to various locations for business development)
