LPHI’s Division of Information Services (IS) designs, plans and enables
Information Services and supporting platforms to positively impact population level health outcomes in Louisiana. IS provides innovative solutions, guidance and TA to health policy-makers, healthcare organizations, and Louisiana communities based in current and emerging Public Health/Bio-Medical Informatics best practices.
Serving both LPHI and partner healthcare organizations, IS efforts broadly focus on the following congruent areas
– Health Geography, Health Information
Technology, Infrastructure and Information Systems Development.
Position Summary
As a part of LPHI’s Division of Information Services (IS) the HIT
Clinical Intern will report to the Sr. Project Manager, Division of Information Services. With strategic guidance of the Director, Division of Information Services, the Clinical Intern will collaborate with the HIT Specialist
and Project Analyst for the Division of
Information Services to implement a coordinated electronic medical
record system in Greater New Orleans’
school-based health centers.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists Health IT Specialist and Project Analyst in all clinically-related aspects of project lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, testing, training, and post-training follow-up.
  • Monitor the progress of clinical sponsors and school-based health centers as they move through different stages of the project life cycle.
  • Regular site visits to health centers in the Greater New Orleans area; software troubleshooting; documentation and resolution of software support requests through vendor.
  • Assist in workflow data gathering and analysis; recommend, implement, and evaluate customizations to EMR system based on workflow needs.
  • Assist in creation of project documentation

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of small practice (1-5 physician) clinical environment and
staff responsibilities
2. Knowledge of health information technology arena, including the use
of electronic medical record
systems.
3. Excellent communication, presentation and analytical skills.
4. Ability to think proactively and function independently, in a dynamic
and fast paced environment
5. Reliable Transportation
Desired Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
1. Strong organizational skills
2. Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications including Word,
Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
3. Ability to learn new and complex subject areas quickly
4. Experience implementing an electronic medical record system, or other
software system on a medium to
large scale.
5. Experience or knowledge related to school-based health centers.
6. Degree or Degree in progress in public health, medical, computer
science, or other related field.
7. Project management knowledge and/or experience.
