Organization Description: Project Concern International (PCI) is an international non-government, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting community health, human rights, and integrated development in 13 countries worldwide. PCI’s primary interventions areas are maternal and child health; disease prevention, with an emphasis on HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care and support; food aid and food security including livelihoods and agribusiness; humanitarian assistance; water and sanitation; and building the capacity of local organizations and networks.
PCI/India is implementing the PATHWAY+ program, which provides integrated low-cost community home-based care, nutritional support, psychosocial counseling and other basic services to people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) and their family members. The program is being implemented in five high prevalence states in India: Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Manipur, and Nagaland.
Overview of Position: PCI is seeking 1-2 interns to provide support to PATHWAY program through
- Undertaking costing exercise of the program
- Working on Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) for the program.
Major Tasks:
The interns will assist PCI resource and implementation team for the following tasks;
a) Costing Exercise
a. To work in close association with PCI team and the expert to carryout costing exercise, which will include estimating per unit cost of delivery of the program and undertaking cost benefit analysis
b. To undertake comparison of the cost of delivery of the pathway program with other care and support programs (government and NGO programs)
b) M&E
a. To work in close coordination with the PATHWAY+ team to streamline data available from PATHWAY+ M&E system. This will include undertaking information flow analysis, validation of the data, extracting key information on critical indicators and suggesting ways on how data could be represented in reports, publications and fact sheets.
c) The intern(s) are expected to submit a final report at the end of their assignment.
Note: The detailed tasks shall be explained and allocated to the interns who are selected in response to this SOW.
Period of placement: May 2009 to August 2009 (4 Months), though dates are flexible.
Location: The intern will be based in New Delhi, and will travel to project sites in Pune, Salem, Warangal, and possibly the Northeastern states.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor Degree in International Studies of any kind, Public Health, or related academic study or Graduate level training in Social Sciences / Economics / Statistics or a related discipline. Preferably masters in Social Sciences / MPH / Statistical sciences
· Excellent communication skills including listening, writing, verbal and interpersonal relations.
· Strong computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet use, and database management or (Preferred: MS Word, MS Excel or Statistical packages for social sciences).
· Excellent organizational, research, resource development and/or analytic skills.
· Knowledge and Interest to launch in to the filed of HIV / AIDS in PCI’s project sites
· Knowledge or experience in India, or geographical political, socio-economic, or health sector issues.
· Physically able and willing to travel to the field for data analysis and work on MIS.
The placement and functioning of Interns shall be as per policies and procedures of the organisation
Position Compensation/Travel Reimbursement: None. This is strictly a voluntary position as per HR policies of PCI. However, applicants are free to pursue outside sources of funding (grants, other academic support) to offset travel and living costs.
