The Health Research Training Program (HRTP) of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) is pleased to announce it is accepting applications for the Summer 2009 Session. The program is open to undergraduate, graduate and professional school students. Since 1961, HRTP has provided students with valuable, real-life experience in public health research and practice in New York City. The goals of the program are:
1. To orient students to the principles and practices of public health planning, research, evaluation and administration.
2. To broaden student’s concept of public health by increasing their awareness of the needs, challenges and career opportunities in this field.
3. To assist the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in recruiting skilled candidates with proven potential
The DOHMH is a premier training ground for the future generation of public health leaders and researchers. Many former HRTP interns have gone on to careers in government public health agencies, academia and not-for profit organizations. Students have the opportunity to work with some of the top researchers and advocates in public health, as well as fellow students from across the United States. In addition, HRTP provides several opportunities for professional and academic growth, such as weekly seminars provided DOHMH staff who are experts in the field, and career development discussions.
HRTP is now accepting electronic applications with the attached forms. Students may also have recommendations submitted by email, provided it is sent from the recommender’s official university email.
The deadline for summer session 2009 is Monday, February 16, 2009.
All applications and supporting documents must be received by this deadline.
Because the summer session is highly competitive, late application will not be accepted.
Applications and instructions are enclosed for distribution to interested students. Your assistance in publicizing the opportunities and benefits of HRTP is appreciated. Please feel free to contact HRTP if you have any questions or would like to discuss the program further.
Sincerely,
HRTP Staff
