Program Coordinator: Sexual & Reproductive Health Advocacy Project (SRHAP)

Incorporated in 1993, the Institute of Women & Ethnic Studies (IWES) is a not-for-profit 501[c](3) organization based in New Orleans, Louisiana.  IWES is dedicated to improving the physical, mental, and spiritual health and quality of life for women of color and their families.  The Sexual & Reproductive Health Advocacy Project (SRHAP) is a participatory action research project designed to advocate for services, resources and policies in post-Katrina New Orleans that support a reproductive justice agenda, particularly  mental, sexual and reproductive health services for underserved women, their families and communities.

The Program Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of meetings, communication, action plans, and of the execution of multi-faceted activities for SRHAP.  This is a full-time position under the supervision of the Program Director and the Executive Director of IWES.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with broad coalition of public health educators, service providers, and community organizers for program implementation and evaluation
  • Coordinate program planning, implementation and collaborative activities
  • Monitor project development to ensure that activities meet objectives
  • Contribute to program reports, documentation and recording-keeping for the SRHAP activities and committees
  • Assist in the development and supervision of work plans in keeping with project goals and objectives
  • Maintain ongoing communication and reporting of project development to IWES staff,  community partners and stakeholders
  • Assist in the development of periodic reports for community dissemination, policy briefings, and as needed by funders

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in program design, implementation, evaluation and/or community organizing and coalition building. Masters degree preferred.
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities relating to reproductive justice, women’s health, health policy, advocacy and minority health.
  • Practical experience in training and facilitation strategies and methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of research methodologies, evaluation, and grant/proposal writing.
  • Proficiency in current versions of Windows, Word Perfect, Microsoft Word; and Microsoft PowerPoint; familiarity with database and spreadsheet programs, such as Microsoft Excel and Access, email programs, and Internet.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, including experience in cross-cultural exchanges.
  • Sensitivity to cultural, racial, and sexual diversity.
  • Spanish language skills – a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Commitment to organizational mission is essential.

Special Requirements:

Willingness to work nights and weekend hours as requested.  Periodic travel within the state is necessary.
