Malaria Elimination Volunteer

Position: Malaria Elimination Volunteer Research Associate

Location:  Traveling within Southern Africa

Duration: Approx. 3 months, beginning no later than January 1st

The Malaria Elimination Volunteer Research Associate will assist the Clinton Foundation to capture and analyze best practices for the elimination malaria transmission. This work will be closely coordinate with the Malaria Elimination Group, a body of more than 30 leading malaria experts from around the world of which the Clinton Foundation is a member. The Intern will work closely with members of the Foundation’s malaria team and other leading experts to research and produce cutting-edge documents and analytical models related to the elimination of malaria.

We seek a highly motivated, entrepreneurial individual with outstanding analytical and communication skills.  The Intern must be able to function independently and flexibly and have a strong research skills and a commitment to excellence.  The position will be based in Southern Africa with limited travel in the region expected.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Conduct in-depth research of successful malaria elimination programs to determine the key factors and impact of success;

· Gather comprehensive data epidemiological, financial, and operational data from at least one country which has successfully eliminated malaria in close collaboration with the government and other partners;

· Contribute to detailed economic analysis of data gathered from elimination countries to determine costs, cost-effectiveness, and financing mechanisms;

· Assist with the synthesis and analysis of gathered information for major international reports and publication in leading medical journals

Qualities Required:

  • Exceptional problem solving skills and analytical capabilities
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Excellent quantitative and qualitative research skills
  • Ability to work independently on large, demanding projects
  • High level of proficiency in relevant computer applications particularly Excel, Word, and statistical package programs such as SPSS or Stata.
