Nurse Practitioner – Rwanda

Job Description:

The Institute of Human Virology is recruiting for a Health Care Provider. The Health Care Provider will, under limited supervision, provide Nursing technical assistance in resource limited settings. This position will be based in Rwanda and the selected candidate must be able to spend extended periods of time in resource limited settings throughout the country.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Assess patient health and provides diagnostic and therapeutic services. Exercise autonomy in medical decision making.
•Monthly visits to each site and on as needed basis for needs assessment, precepting nurse coordinator and reviewing local challenges/problem solving including evaluation of current skill level. Participate in training programs for nurse care, adherence and if needed, palliative care and support.
•Establish uniform care delivery model for all sites that are implemented along with nurse coordinators from each site, CRS Rwanda and IHV staff.

  • Train nursing staff in HIV/AIDS Nursing Care in Rwanda.

•Develop teaching materials in conjunction with implementation of IHV curriculum and local partners when appropriate.

  • Assist with Quality Assurance and Quality improvement activities.

•Participate in report writing, provide information, and act as a liaison and local partner treatment facility advocate between IHV, CRS and sites.

  • In accordance with state guidelines, may prescribe medications and therapies.
  • May participate in research projects or clinical trials.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The scope and complexity of duties requires a licensed Nurse Practitioner.
  • The preferred candidate will have a BSN degree and be fluent in French.

•Certification in HIV/AIDS management and/or Hospice and Palliative Care preferred.

  • Teaching experience though not required, is highly desirable.

•May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Skill in consulting with patients and families.

•Ability to stay current in emerging technology, best practices and techniques.
•Excellent communications and time management skills. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
