JOB TITLE: Statistical Manager/Research Data Analyst
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The person in this position will have responsibility for managing, maintaining, improving and expanding the Pregnancy to Early Life Longitudinal (PELL) Database, a unique relational data system that links large administrative and programmatic databases cross-sectionally and longitudinally. Responsibilities include data documentation, executing statistical analyses, and presenting study results. Specific functions include the use of SAS to execute, enhance and develop new probabilistic and deterministic linkage algorithms, to create analytic databases and conduct statistical analyses of linked data.
PELL, a powerful tool for surveillance, program evaluation, and research in Massachusetts, is a joint project of the Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH), the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
REPORTS TO: PELL Project Director
EMPLOYER: Boston Univ. School of Public Health
LOCATION: The position is physically located at the MA Department of Public Health, 250 Washington St., Boston.
HOURS: Full time. Flexible hours are possible.
COMPENSATION: Grade level 55, excellent benefits. Boston Univ. employees are eligible for tuition remission.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree with courses in SAS, biostatistics, epidemiology, public health informatics, or equivalent. Master’s preferred.
- Minimum 3 years FTE SAS programming and data analysis
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
1. Excellent knowledge of SAS, including macros and SQL
2. Experience working with large administrative datasets
3. Experience with database development, extraction of data from large data files, and creation of analytic databases
4. Experience conducting statistical analyses, including univariate, bivariate and multivariate analyses
5. Experience producing statistical reports, including tables and graphs
6. Knowledge of research methods and statistical report writing
7. Ability to work independently and with a team
8. Excellent oral and written communication skills
9. Excellent managerial and organizational skills, including attention to detail
10. Familiarity with maternal and child health issues
