Mercy Corps is seeking a Darfur Program Director in Sudan. Mercy Corps
is currently implementing $31 million in grants throughout Sudan. Relief
activities are on-going in West Darfur, where Mercy Corps is meeting the
immediate needs of more than 150,000 conflict-affected people while also
laying the foundation for households’ recovery, through skills building,
education, and psychosocial programming. Apart from Darfur, Mercy Corps
works along the north/ south border and is facilitating recovery by
addressing short-term economic recovery needs for nearly 300,000 people,
while laying the groundwork for long-term development. Additionally, we
are building capacity for more than 70 civil society partners. All these
activities span many sectors, including agriculture, market and
livelihoods development, water/ sanitation, capacity building, peace
building, infrastructure rehabilitation, education, camp management,
protection and emergency distribution. Mercy Corps maintains twelve
offices and sub-offices throughout the country.

The Darfur Program Director provides overall management and direction
for the agency’s humanitarian program in and around Darfur. S/He moves
throughout the region in order to forge necessary partnerships, oversee
operations, assess and develop response options, seek funding and
position the agency for longer-term programming in the region if
required. The Darfur Program Director manages all staff working in the
Darfur region and those supporting the Darfur operations in Sudan. S/He
represents the agency’s Darfur humanitarian assistance program with
governmental representatives, UN agencies, donors, other humanitarian
agencies, vendors, and the media.

Responsibilities: Coordinate and supervise the implementation of all of
Mercy Corps’ humanitarian response activities in Darfur and in close
cooperation with supporting managers to ensure that program goals and
objectives are met or exceeded. Lead and coordinate new program
development activities that reflect humanitarian needs, available
funding, staff security, and agency capacity. Ensure that Sphere
guidelines are incorporated into design and implementation efforts.
Manage international and national program staff, and conduct training,
evaluations, promotions, discipline, and termination, in accordance with
the Mercy Corps Policy and Procedures Manual. Additional duties

REQUIREMENTS: BA/BS in a relevant field, MA or MS preferred. 5 years’
multi-sector field management experience including emergency relief,
health, engineering, agriculture and/or infrastructure repair projects.
2 years successful experience with grant management and budget oversight
as well as personnel development and management. Arabic language skills
and familiarity with local cultural and religious norms preferred.
