Vector Control Specialist

Background: Malaria Consortium is a leading international organisation working in Africa and Asia as well as at global level on communicable disease control. Malaria Consortium manages a large number of communicable disease projects in a number of countries. These projects range from technical support at central government level to direct implementation of projects for the control of malaria, tuberculosis, diarrhoeal diseases and neglected tropical diseases at district and community levels. Malaria Consortium is engaged in all aspects of malaria vector control including development of policies and strategies as well as the design and implementation of large-scale insecticide-treated mosquito net and indoor residual spraying programmes.

Key roles and responsibilities: The Vector Control Specialist has responsibility for leading the development and implementation of MC Africa’s portfolio of work in vector control and will ensure technical quality on these issues. Regional • Oversee and expand MC Africa’s portfolio of work on vector control • Be responsible for MC Africa providing high quality technical programmes and activities on vector control • Support the development and implementation of innovative strategies for improving coverage of and access to effective malaria prevention interventions • Lead resource mobilisation and new project development including innovative approaches to further MC’s work in vector control • Work with Malaria Consortium Director of M&E to mobilise appropriate funding for vector control operational research activities and ensure technically sound implementation • Develop the MC vector control team through mentoring and capacity development • Be responsible for the vector control team producing high quality publications and reports of activities Global • Contribute to the global MC role on vector control • Liaise with the Malaria Consortium Technical Director on development of Malaria Consortium technical strategy and technical documents relating to vector control Line Management: the position is line managed by the MC Africa Director. Location: Kampala, Uganda and frequent regional and international travel (40%)

Skills and experience: • Postgraduate degree in entomology or related discipline • Minimum of five years international experience working in malaria control, preferably in Africa • Experience of working with Ministries of Health, international agencies and NGOs • Experience in successful proposal development • Excellent writing and presentation skills
