Food For Families
Research Assistant
Job Description
Background
The Food For Families Project (FFF), a collaboration between the
Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Project Bread – The Walk For
Hunger (PB), identifies hunger among families of pediatric patients and
assists the families to access Food Stamps and other food resources. The
project includes six community health centers in the Greater Boston
area.
In addition to establishing a model for identifying hunger among
families and assisting the families to access food resources in a clinic
setting, the project was designed to determine its effect on
nutritional, medical and behavioral outcomes for children and their
families. The evaluation of the project also will explore: 1) the
operational issues in implementing hunger screening and assistance in
community health center practices; 2) the financial implications of the
screening and intervention on the health centers; and 3) whether
reimbursement of a hunger screening and intervention by payers, such as
Medicaid, is supported.
