Data Analyst
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Bureau of Environmental Emergency Preparedness and Response (BEEPR) is responsible for collecting, analyzing and reporting environmental monitoring data during routine and emergency situations. Environmental monitoring data is collected in the field using various types of chemical, biological and radiological monitoring instruments and is transferred to the agency’s Environmental Data Exchange Network (EDEN). EDEN is a data system developed to facilitate environmental data exchange among various city agencies to provide timely analysis, interpretation and dissemination of environmental information. The Bureau is in need of a Data Analyst to assist in developing validation methods and ensuring quality assurance of environmental monitoring data prior to disseminating this data and using it in making informed decisions. The Data Analyst will be responsible for:
– Assisting in managing and analyzing qualitative, as well as quantitative data,
– Data import and export,
– Data quality assurance,
– Developing data validation methods and protocols,
– Providing analytical reports from databases,
– Providing upkeep and maintenance of reporting systems,
– Ensuring data quality in development databases,
– Processing and testing field data by collecting non-emergency response field samples for the purpose of testing BEEPR hardware, software, and IT (servers) compatibility, and
– Assist with special projects (equipment databases, tracking, etc.)
The ideal candidate will have following:
- A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization, or
- A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time experience in the appropriate field of specialization, including one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization, or
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to ~1′ or ‘2’. However, all candidates must have a master’s degree in an appropriate field of specialization and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative, or research capacity as described in ~2′ above,

NOTE: NEW YORK CITY RESIDENCY IS REQUIRED.
PREFERRED:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. Excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to understand complex business processes. Experience in cleaning and analyzing large complex databases. Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and manage projects from all stages.
