TEPHINET (Training Programs in Epidemiology and Public Health Interventions Network) recently joined the Task Force for Child Survival and Development and is a professional alliance of field epidemiology training programs located in thirty-two countries around the world. Trainees of these programs master a set of core competencies vital to the practice of public health while providing a valuable public health service.

The Task Force for Child Survival and Development is a nonprofit public health organization that is based in Decatur, Georgia and is an affiliate of Emory University. The work of the Task Force focuses on both international and domestic health and human development. The Task Force was formed in 1984 as a collaboration between the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the United Nations Development Program, the World Bank, and the Rockefeller Foundation to achieve the goal of universal child immunization by 1990. What is now The Task Force for Child Survival and Development began as a secretariat for this extraordinarily successful venture. Since its inception, the Task Force has worked effectively to convene people and organizations from public and private sectors to help them work together to achieve consensus and implement programs. By providing an unbiased, neutral meeting ground, we are able to help organizations set aside their institutional agendas to achieve a common strategic goal.

The Task Force is currently seeking a Director of the TEPHINET program. The Director will be responsible for the overall success of TEPHINET by providing initiative, resourcefulness, problem-solving, strategic, technical and medical oversight.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct and supervise the TEPHINET program
  • Implement decisions of the TEPHINET board of advisors, keep the board informed on matters of significance through reports and briefs
  • Plan agendas and prepare minutes for meetings of the TEPHINET board of advisors and general membership
  • Develop and coordinate a strategic plan with the TEPHINET board of advisors and with the Task Force
  • Solicit funds and write proposals to secure funding to support network activities as specified in the TEPHINET work plan, and approved by the board of advisors, ensure goals and objectives are met
  • Seek opportunities and resources to help support training programs, and to expand the network and TEPHINET project offerings within the network, build alliances
  • Promote and maintain effective communication and good relations within the organization and with partner organizations
  • Provide reports to the TEPHINET board of advisors and to the Task Force board of directors and administrative officers.
  • Maintain adequate records
  • Represent the program to donors and other organizations

Other Responsibilities
The Director will participate in the ongoing Task Force meetings and initiatives, including but not limited to annual planning and budgeting, fundraising, the Executive Committee for Business Management and such other duties as assigned by the Task Force Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MD or PhD or related advanced degree
  • 7 to 10 years of experience in public health
  • Demonstrated oversight of a non-profit, charitable, governmental institution or related organization
  • Management, fund raising, networking, international relations and technical oversight experience
  • Experience with Field Epidemiology Training Programs (FETPs), EIS, or related Applied Epidemiology
  • Knowledge of applied epidemiology and applied epidemiology training programs (FETPs and PHSWOWs)
  • International experience in developing countries with ability for limited travel
  • Excellent English oral and written communication abilities
  • Working knowledge of other languages
  • Demonstrated networking, interpersonal, and supervisory skills
