Analyst – Regional Voices: Transnational Challenge

The Henry L. Stimson Center is a nonprofit public policy institute
committed to finding and promoting practical, innovative solutions to
security challenges. The Stimson Center seeks a full-time Analyst to
support its Regional Voices: Transnational Challenges project. Under
the direction of the Project Director, the Analyst will be
responsible for the project’s work on environmental change and its
scientific/technical, economic, political and social dimensions.
The purpose of the project is to gather and analyze data and share
information on non-US perspectives and priorities in relation to
non-traditional security issues such as environmental change, public
health, the maritime realm, the political economy of natural
resources, migration, and natural disasters. Regional Voices conducts
analytic work in collaboration with issue experts, policy analysts,
and research institutions in the Middle East, South Asia, and
Southeast Asia. The project has recently extended its work to North
and East Africa.
RESPONSIBILITIES
“* Identify, recommend and implement strategies to improve
understanding among US policy-makers of transnational security
perspectives from the regions.
“* Monitor, evaluate, and report on related developments
“* Organize and participate in meetings in the regions and the US,
digest and summarize meeting proceedings, and analyze patterns
observed and their implications for US policy
“* Develop and maintain networks of relationships in the regions.
“* Carry out analytical writing for publication
“* Review and prepare commissioned papers and other research for
publication
“* Coordinate outreach efforts in subject areas of responsibility,
including the website presence
QUALIFICATIONS:
“* Advanced degree in scientific or technical discipline related to
non-traditional security threats, or equivalent experience
“* Approximately six to eight years of relevant experience
“* Demonstrated record of analytical writing
“* Experience in US foreign policy, especially US cooperation on
non-traditional security issues in the specified regions
“* Grasp of relationships among environmental change, economic
trends, migration, natural disasters, conflict and political
instability
“* Field experience in subject areas in the specified regions
“* Familiarity with South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Southwest
Asia/Gulf
“* Knowledge of North and East Africa regional knowledge is desirable
“* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with
colleagues is critical
“* Seasoned interpersonal skills particularly in cultural awareness
and diplomacy
“* Exceptional organizational skills to manage tight timelines with
grace is important
