Job: FitLot Coach, app deadline 6/10

 FitLot is recruiting a  Neighborhood Coach to work 20 hours a week for one year starting from July 14, 2014. They are looking for an all star to spearhead the neighborhood coaches program through Coaches Across America.  
FitLot is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization committed to building outdoor fitness parks in communities across America.  Formed in 2013, FitLot’s vision is for every American to have access to a cost-free exercise space within walking distance of their homes.  FitLot works with community leaders to build outdoor fitness parks so that people have access to cost-free exercise and equipment that is safe and easy to use. Each fitness park is staffed with a trained FitLot Coach who will be there to help individuals meet fitness goals and ensure safety. FitLot partners with neighborhood associations to identify potential locations with high foot traffic and low accessibility to outdoor exercise space.
Coach Across America (CAA) is the first nationwide program to inspire young adults to commit to a year of service as Coach Mentors in underserved communities. CAA Coaches receive extensive training through Up2Us’ Center for Sports-Based Youth Development. More than 500 Coaches have provided opportunities for 75,000 youth to be active, learn skills, and stay out of trouble through sports. Learn more at www.up2us.org

 

Principal Duties:

  • organize, host and facilitate free fitness classes at the fitness park for 10-15 people 4x a week (about 10 hours a week)
  • lead classes and answer exercise/equipment related questions at the fitness park
  • plan fitness classes, work outs and wellness education classes
  • execute community outreach programs by communicating directly with members of the neighborhood and social media
  • help organize planning meetings and facilitate health and wellness education curriculum during community hosted planning meetings
  • coordinate with community members for the planning of the community build day where volunteers from the neighborhood come together to build a fitness park

Education, Experience & Training:

Minimum requirement:

  • High school graduate
  • Personal training certification through a nationally recognized organization. (If applicant is not certified we will help them through the certification process)
  • Health and wellness knowledge
  • Appreciation for healthful living (someone who can lead by example)
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an exercise related field
  • One year personal training experience
  • Accreditation from NSCA, ASCM, NASM, ACE, or Cooper Institute
  • CPR Certified
  • Experience working with young adults
  • Experience facilitating physical activity programs
  • Experience doing community involvement/engagement work

Coach Across America is an intense experience and Coach es are asked to go above and beyond every day of their service term. Being a part of Coach Across America connects our Coaches both with their local communities and a larger national movement of people dedicated to serving youth through sports. In addition to site-specific duties, Coach Across America Coaches are also responsible for the following
CAA program elements: completing timesheets, creating program rosters and attendance trackers, administering evaluations to program participants, attending orientations and trainings, reflecting on their service in guided reflection logs and participating in a National Day of Service
