SAPORO Research Assistant – open position(s)

Position: 3-4 Research Assistants to study Southern Area Patient Oriented Research Organization’s (SAPORO) extent and type of Smartphone health application adoption across our network and to determine if its use is associated with overall health literacy levels and the ability to lose weight.

Dates: Summer of 2016

Hours: 20-30 Hours a week for approximately 12 weeks

Pay/Stipend: Possible stipend;  travel will be reimbursed at current Tulane University mileage rate

Requirements: 1) Graduate student in Public Health, Medical Student, or other Graduate Level Student in a medical related field.

2) Vehicle Transportation- the position requires daytime travel to Baton Rouge, Bogalusa, the West Bank, New Orleans, Metairie, Lafayette, and Lake Charles.

3) Flexible work schedule and ability to attend clinic sessions during normal clinic hours (usually 8am-5pm, M-F) at the above listed locations.

Description: SAPORO is a Practice Based Research Networks (PBRN) as defined by The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality defines as a group of primary care clinicians and practices working together to answer community-based health care questions and translate research findings into practice. PBRNs engage clinicians in quality improvement activities and an evidence-based culture in primary care practice to improve the health of all Americans.

The research assistant will be responsible for attending clinics to obtain patient consent, administer and collect surveys on both Smartphone health application use and Health Literacy, input the data into Qualtrics (an online survey tool), and perform other administrative duties related to the study.  Database management skills would be a definite advantage as well as ability to perform simple statistical analysis.  This opportunity may fulfill School of Public Health Practicum Requirements.
